The new value Solid series

OCZ has silently introduced its new SSD series simply called Solid. The new series is going to fill a value solid state drives gap that OCZ had, as the Core series is a mainstream part while the performance crown is set for the OCZ SATA II 2.5" SSDs.

The new series is going to be available in 30, 60 and 120GB capacities. The new drives will have write and read speeds of up to 90 and 155MB/s respectively. We are talking about a 2.5" design, measuring 100 x 70 x 9.3mm and weighing 77g.

In addition to the standard SATA port the new drives will have a mini-USB port that is used for firmware update when the new version becomes available. This is a good thing, as customers can easily update firmware and it ensures compatibility with future platforms.

As a value part, this new series will have a low price, lower than the rest of the drives on the market, at least, and according to our info the 30GB should end up at around €80 in Europe. Still a bit steep, but at least not as steep as it was a year ago.

The new drives are not yet listed, but we expect them to show up pretty soon.
