Congress warned of Chinese online espionage threat

A congressional advisory panel has told U.S. lawmakers that China has stepped up cyber attacks on American interests.

"China is stealing vast amounts of sensitive information from U.S. computer networks," claims Larry Wortzel, Chairman of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. The report claims Chinese hackers are spying on the U.S. government, as well as defense contractors and businesses.

Apart from these down-to-earth cyber threats, the commission warns the Chinese space program also poses a serious threat to U.S. security. One of the main concerns is that Chinese surveillance satellites could easily pinpoint U.S. carrier battle groups, making them vulnerable to preemptive strikes.

We're not sure how the U.S. Navy could have expected to keep a dozen ships displacing half a million tons invisible in the first place.
