To be able to offer cheaper system

It seems that Asus is finding it hard to shift its Eee Box nettop PCs and the company has now added a new SKU to the line up using a Mobile Celeron 220 processor over an Atom N270 processor. This allows Asus to lower the overall cost of the system.

In other words, this must mean that mobile Atom N270 is a fairly expensive CPU, as we wouldn't have thought that even a cheap Mobile Celeron processor would make that much of a difference in the overall system price.

To make things even stranger, the Celeron 220 models ship with a 120GB SATA drive, while some Atom models with an 80GB drive still cost more. However, the main Eee Box systems on sale in Taiwan come with a 160GB hard drive in combination with an Atom N270 processor.

We're not sure if the Celeron 220 model will turn up outside of Taiwan, especially as the price difference is only €24 (US$30), which is suggesting that it's not a great savings and with the Celeron 220 being clocked at 1.2GHz, it's unlikely that it'll outperform the 1.6GHz Atom N270. The rest of the system specifications remain the same.
