The big thing for 2009?

With the general downturn in the market, people are likely to spend less on electronics, although people aren't going to stop using computers, and it looks as if the Taiwanese computer makers are now putting their hopes for 2009 in the all-in-one, low-cost PC market.

With Asus already shipping its Eee Top and with new models planned, MSI getting ready to ship its Wind Neton and others likely to follow early next year, it looks as if this is the next holy grail. Digitimes is reporting that Acer is set to join Asus and MSI and we wouldn't be surprised to see more companies joining in to try to get a piece of the action of this new "trend."

Considering that for the same kind of money you can get yourself a more powerful notebook with a higher resolution display than what the current Eee Top is going for, then where is the market?

The Eee Top might have a few fancy features like a touch screen display, but we have a hard time seeing this being widely used. The new models from Asus are expected to have 20 and 22-inch displays and MSI should have an 18.5 and 22-inch model on top of the 15.6-inch models.

Let's hope that these guys don't put all their eggs in one basked and put too much hope in a market that might turn out to be a wild goose chase. If the pricing comes down to a more reasonable level, then maybe these systems will take off, but if Asus' Eee Top pricing is anything to go by, we can't see too many consumers being interested.
