Plans to hire 1,250 employees in the new year

Things are tight in the technology sector, but that has not stopped Research in Motion (RIM) from announcing that they are looking to do some hiring. To be precise, RIM plans to add 1,250 new jobs spread out through their locations in the U.S., Australia and Canada.

However, the majority of the new 1,250 jobs will be in the R&D department in Waterloo, Ontario Canada. With the tough economic situation the majority of RIM’s competitors are either laying off or restructuring in an effort to save money. RIM may do some restructuring at a later date, but the company is said to be adding two or three engineers for every one that is promoted.

RIM currently has a 15.9 percent market share and analysts continue to expect it to grow. The BlackBerry devices have been very successful in the corporate sector, which is an area that other companies have struggled to do well in.
