Corsair announces AX1600i power supply unit

by on11 January 2018

Better efficiency, voltage regulation, and higher output

Corsair has brought plenty of new stuff to CES 2018 show and among them is the new high-end Corsair AX1600i PSU, which not only brings higher output but also has much better efficiency, ripple suppression, lower noise levels and better voltage regulation.

Being a direct successor of Corsair's well-known AX1500i PSU, the AX1600i PSU uses GaN (Gallium Nitride) components for the PFC circuit which increases efficiency but also allows Corsair to make a smaller PSU, as these do not need a large heatsink. With this, Corsair managed to make a better PSU but also make it physically smaller, making it 20mm shorter. The precise dimensions are set at 200x150x86mm.

The Corsair AX1600i PSU is 80 PLUS Titanium rated, which means it offers over 94 percent efficiency, has individual DC/DC regulation for 3.3V, 5V and 12V rails, which should reduce voltage ripple and noise. As expected, it supports Corsair Link software which can be used to monitor and/or control efficiency, voltage, fan speed, over-current protection and more.

The PSU is cooled by a 140mm fluid dynamic bearing fan and comes with low profile black-sleeved cables. It is a fully modular PSU and comes with 24-pin ATX, two EPS, two floppy, three 4-pin peripheral, eight PCIe, and five SATA connectors.

According to Corsair, the AX1600i, which will probably appeal to coin miners and enthusiasts, should be available right now with a price set at US $449.99.
