Not an Eee PC, not a netbook...

We're not sure if Asus is trying to play along Sony's lines by not calling the S121 a netbook, but rather a notebook, yet it's still powered by an Atom Z520 clocked at 1.33GHz (that's the same as in the Vaio P).

Apart from the details that have already leaked out about the S121, the press release holds a few interesting pieces of information. Unlike previous Atom Z-series based machines that we've seen from Dell and more recently Sony, Asus has added an SO-DIMM slot, although the S121 is still limited to 2GB of memory at the most.

Storage wise you're looking at either a 1.8in hard drive with up to 250GB of storage space or an SSD drive with up to 512GB. We have a feeling that the 512GB SSD drive will more than double the price of the S121 compared to the hard drive models.

Interestingly, Asus has also implemented a special powered USB port for one of its own external optical drives. Right next to the USB port is a small power connector that allows the optical drive to draw power from the S121 and as such there's no need for a power adaptor for the optical drive.

Other features include 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, an SD card slot and a 1.3Megapixel webcam. The S121 comes with a 4-cell battery as standard, although no battery life numbers where provided. The S121 weighs in at 1.45kg which makes it heavier than MSI's similarly spec'd X320 which is only 1.3kg with a 13.4in display.
