No new MIDs till Moorestown shows up

Gigabyte is planning to launch three 10-inch netbooks in Q2, along with a 13.3-inch notebook, but it's not planning to unveil new MIDs before Intel launches its new Moorestown platform in October.

The outfit sold just 125,000 notebooks in 2008, and its pricey netbook/tablet designs don't seem to have done well on the market, with just 25,000 units shipped last year. Its new netbooks will feature a 10-inch screen, two of them will be in house designs, while the third will be handled by Quanta Computer. All three should sell at $400, and the company is thinking about offering a cheaper $300 model for certain markets.

The company will try to make more deals with global telecoms and it will also launch a new headset this year. It managed to ship 19 million motherboards and 3.3 million graphics cards in 2008.
