Three vulnerabilities in SMB networking

Microsoft has
issued a patch for three vulnerabilities in SMB networking.

Patch MS09-001 fixes a serious hole which could allow a hacker to take control of any windows machine from Windows 2000 through to the Windows 7 beta. This includes Windows server 2003.

Two of the flaws are rated Moderate for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. The patch cannot be used to fix the Windows 7 vulnerability. Microsoft said that this upgrade will be fixed in another public version.

This means that people playing around with the beta should be a little careful about security.
