Got drunk Aboriginal to sing
An
Aussie copper who told a drunk Aboriginal man to sing and dance while he
recorded the event is in hot water down under.
The video ended up on YouTube
and shows a blotto Aborigine lying on the ground. The copper tells him to sing
The Rivers Of Babylon which he does. A second officer then drags the man to his
feet while the officer behind the camera laughs and tells him to dance and say
"Happy Birthday, Blake".
The drunk man continues to sing and dance about in a
circle before being directed towards a police car. The footage created an
outcry when it first appeared and YouTube users have reported it to the Minister
of Police. Others have described the video as racist and called for the
officer to be sacked or jailed.
Northern Territory police said the officer
who recorded the incident had received counselling after an internal
investigation found his treatment of the man to be "humiliating and
demeaning".
The bloke who posted the video was not connected to the coppers
and said he would take it down if the Aboriginal man asked him. The video has
since been removed.
