Nokia is evil claim

More than
200 Finns protested against a law backed by Nokia that would give employers the right to read workers' emails if wrongdoing is suspected.

The law is expected appear before the Finnish parliament later this month but the demonstrators, who were mostly young adults are blaming Nokia for the law. Anton Tamminen, one of the demonstration organisers, told AFP that the law weakens employees' basic rights and would impact everybody using information networks. The local press claimed that Nokia had threatened to leave Finland if the law was not introduced, although the phone giant denied this.

However there was no doubt it was involved.  The name of the law “Lex Nokia” refers to a case  in which the mobile phone maker asked police to investigate whether some of its employees had emailed classified information to a Chinese competitor.

The press claimed that Nokia had breached the law by trying to find proof for their suspicions, but coppers said Nokia had done nothing wrong.  Either way Nokia wanted the law clarified so that it could carry out such investigations.
