Shaking the tree, but can’t confirm it just yet

It seems that a little tree shaking in the land of Apple has yielded some interesting information in the form of a desktop product launch announcement on March 24th. While the whispers continue, we can’t confirm it yet; but more than one of our sources is saying that this will be the case.

Our sources have insisted for some time that Apple will be doing a Mac Mini refresh that will be based on the Nvidia chipset and using an Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2GHz. The new Mac Mini will be offered in a lower-end as well as a higher-end configuration. In the higher-end configuration expect a 320GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM that is expandable to 4GB.

Apple is said to also be launching at this event four new iMac models. The low-end iMac will feature a 20” display with 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The other three models will feature a 24” display and the Intel Core 2 Duo processor at speeds from 2.66GHz to 3.06GHz. The lowest-end model will feature 2GB of RAM while the higher-end offerings will sport 4GB of RAM and all of them will be expandable to 8GB of RAM. What is unknown is whether the latest iMac offerings will be powered by an Nvidia chipset, as well, but sources suggest that this is the case.

We are also hearing some chatter about a new AirPort Express and Time Capsule to be offered soon. Our sources, however, say it is unlikely that these will make an appearance at the desktop launch event and will likely be held until later in the year. A rumored Apple TV refresh is also in the works, but all sources have gone silent as to when to expect this to show up; we think it will break cover during the next iPod refresh, as this product is more closely aligned with the iPod.
