Two versions, runs gOS

Remember Kogan, the Australian company that was going to launch the first Android powered Smarphone down under? Well, although there was some setbacks for that product, the company is now getting ready to launch a couple of netbooks.

The two models will be the Agora Netbook and Agora Netbook Pro (we wonder what Psion Techlogix has to say about the names) which differs slightly in terms of specifications, but both models will come with gOS (an easy to use version of Ubuntu) pre-installed. The common spec's between the two include a matte 10.2-inch screen with 1,024x600 resolution, an Atom N270 processor, the Intel 945GSE chipset, a 160GB hard drive, three USB 2.0 ports, 10/100Mbit Ethernet, 802.11b/g WiFi, a 1.3Megapixel web cam and memory card reader.

The Agora Netbook comes with 1GB of memory and a 3-cell battery and will cost AU$499 (€254/£234/$328) while an additional AU$40 (€20/£19/$26) gets you the Pro version which doubles the memory, gets a 6-cell battery and a USB Bluetooth dongle. The Bluetooth dongle can also be had on its own with the Agora Netbook for an additional AU$10. Kogan is also considering making a 3G version in the future, if the Agora Netbook's become popular enough.

Default applications will include Open Office, Skype, Firefox and more. You can also use Ubuntu applications and install them via the applications manager which automatically download and install new applications for you.

At this point in time it's not clear if the Kogan Agora Netbook's will be available outside of Australia, as we presume the shipping costs might be too high, at least in comparison to the Android handset which was set to ship Worldwide.
