Forgets to add menus for Chrome and Opera

Here at Fudzilla we're all for change, as long as change means that things get better. However, it seems like Asus has forgotten its new motto, Inspiring Innovation, Persistent Perfection, at least when it came to compatibility testing of its new website that launched today.

Out of the five web browsers we have installed, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3.0.6 and Safari 4 beta would load up the menu, while both Chrome and Opera had no such luck, making it really hard to navigate the new site.

Considering that Chrome has taken a sizable chunk of the browser market in the short time since it was launched, this is a major omission by Asus. The new site also seems to load much slower than the old one (which wasn't fast by any measure). The navigation is also dreadful at times, with as many as five clicks needed to reach a single product due to over-complex sub-menus.

Now, we're not really out to bash Asus here, as the new site looks a damn sight better than the old one, but there's definitely some tuning that needs to be done. Some products have been given more pictures than in the past, but sadly this doesn't seem to apply to the motherboards. Gone are also the annoying flash animations for the notebooks, although there's now much more flash content used across the site itself.

It seems like certain links are also dead, as we got a couple of error messages telling us that the page we were looking for couldn't be found. This also seemed to break the site and required us to start over from the beginning, which is quite frustrating as you can't go back with the back button when this happens, nor did clicking the Asus logo seem to do anything.

Hopefully Asus will be able to work out all the kinks with the new site ASAP, but in the meanwhile, we wouldn't recommend you visiting it unless you really have to.

Update: We've already had reports in that the site supposedly works fine with Version 1.0.154.40 of Chrome, but it doesn't like version 2.0.160.0 which we used. The site also seems to randomly time out. For now it also seems like the update is only available for the Global website, with all the local ones remaining as they were.
