We need the money

The dark
satanic rumour mill has been churning out a yarn that says that Sony was about to drop the cost of its PS3 console.

The rumours were based on the fact that Sony had dropped the price of its PS2 everywhere in the world except the UK where punters are used to being ripped off by outrageous pricing.

As the rumours started to gain ground, Sony had to either confirm or deny that it was doing it as punters will wait for the outrageously priced game gear to be reduced before they waste money on it. However they have chosen to pour cold water on the idea.

The official comment is: "As we have stated previously, we do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumours to that effect are false and are the result of speculation.” Sony is apparently still “taking the long term view” on the PS3 which means that it is going to keep charging people over the odds while its rivals significantly under cut it.

Eventually, Sony hopes, it will make its money back.
