Bean counters claim
The computer
games industry is not even feeling the pinch of recession as gamers continue to
spend, spend spend.
Beancounters working for NPD claim that the games
industry is effectively recession-proof with consumers set to maintain or
increase their spending on games throughout 2009.
More than 65 per cent of
the 10,000 candidates surveyed intend to spend the same amount on video games in
2009 as they did in 2008. NPD entertainment industry analyst Russ Crupnick
said that even in the face of a down economy, entertainment remains a popular
spending category.
While there were some worries about the economy among
entertainment buyers, punters have clearly shown that compelling content will
get them back into the stores or theatres, he said.
