US government bloke says

The bloke
in charge of a US government review of cyber security said that protecting the country online would required a team effort between businesses and government.

Melissa Hathaway said that her 60-day review of the US communications and information infrastructure has identified 250 "needs, tasks, and recommendations. She said that when the report is made public businesses will see there is a lot of work to do together as cyberspace will not be secured overnight on the basis of one plan.

Hathaway said the US is at "a crossroads" with cyberspace underpinning promise and perils. She said that the situation ws getting worse with countless intrusions from foreign countries and internal spying.

The US government is not organised properly to foster the collaboration and sharing needed for cyber security at the moment. Hathaway said that no single government agency should oversee cyber defences and the US needs to work with other nations as well as computer specialists in the private sector.
