Alongside USB headset and speakers

MSI has announced a range of new audio products which consists of a PCI Express X-Fi based sound card, a gamer-centric USB headset and a pair of USB speakers, all selling under the Syren brand.

The SyrenSound X-Fi as the sound card is called, seems to be the same sound card as the one that MSI bundles with its high-end motherboards. It supports EAX Advanced HD, CMSS-3D and the 24-bit Crystalizer, but it lacks the X-Fi RAM found on some higher-end models from Creative and Auzentech. The card has five 3.5mm audio jacks and an optical S/PDIF out in the shape of a Toslink connector. The card connects to your motherboard via a PCI Express x1 slot.

The poorly named SyrenPhone Gaming (we really can't believe MSI thought this was a good name) gaming headset oddly enough connects to your PC via USB, so it's not going to work with the SyrenSound X-Fi, but it still have a few interesting features. The ear pads are covered in velvet which should make them comfortable to wear even for extended periods of time and there's an in-line remote for adjusting the volume and muting the mic. We're not so keen on the glowing red G logo on the side of one of the ear cups, but it might appeal to a certain group of users. The USB connector is gold plated for some reason and the headset comes with a carrying pouch.

Finally the SyrenSpeaker mini (again, what's with these product names MSI?) is meant to partners up with your notebook or netbook and connects via USB. The speakers can hardly be called powerful at 1W each, but at least they feature a built in volume and mute controls. You get a small carrying pouch with them as well.

No word on pricing or release date as yet, but if these products work out to be cheap enough, we're sure MSI will to pretty well.
