When the rest of the net is
down
While it seems that the Iranian government might be censoring some
parts of the Internet, Twitter seems to be the tool of choice for opposition
activist who want to word of protests.
Iran's government has silenced
traditional media after the country's disputed presidential election and so
Iranians have turned to Twitter. It is being used to organise, send pictures
and messages to the outside world as the events happen and it is stuffing up
any government attempts at censorship.
No one seems to believe the state
media and they started to create Twitter accounts because they heard Twitter
was the most efficient way to discover and share what was happening in the
moments.
Of course the government has blocked Twitter but there are lots of
sites that allow them to post tweets and allow them to read tweets from
others. Mobile phones can be used but Iranians are still banned from sending
SMS messages.
