Half a billion since April
Back in late April, Apple told the world plus dog that it had managed
to sell a billion apps for the iPhone/iPod touch platform. Now, a mere
3 moths later, it can boast sales of 1.5 billion apps, and it's obvious
sales are picking up at a tremendous rate.
This isn't surprising, as Apple has sold more than 40 million iPhone
and iPod Touch devices so far, and the user base is growing steadily.
It is currently offering about 65,000 apps in its store, and developers
are keen to get a piece of the action.
While Apple faces a number of rivals in the smartphone market, its
overly simplified approach to application development and distribution
is obviously leaving Nokia, RIM, Microsoft, and now Google, behind.
