Only for Japan at first and it will carry a high price

Disney is going to start offering Micro SD cards with movies on them in conjunction with Panasonic. It will first be offered in Japan only in November.

The first titles out of the gate will be the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy and it will be priced at about $53 US per title. Future titles from Disney will see a simultaneous release of both the DVD and Micro SD card versions.

The movies that are packed onto these Micro SD cards will, of course, be copy protected, but they will be able to be viewed on a variety of devices such as mobile phones, car navigation systems, Blu-ray players and also flat panel TVs.

The move by Disney comes as a bit of a surprise, as SanDisk has not been able to gain much traction with a similar approach for music called Slot Music. According to reports, Disney will test the market in Japan and if it proves to be popular they will look at the possibility of expansion into other regions.
