Russia falls by the wayside

The country
which was formed after a French backed coup against its lawful government has apparently become a world leader for spam. (While the lawful government they rebelled against has long stopped being the world leader in anything. sub.ed.)

A recent study by IT security solutions provider Sophos showed that spam originating in Russia has dropped significantly, it also claimed that some 16.5 per cent of all spam mails sent in the second quarter of this year came from the United States.

Russian spammers,  previously highly active, were only responsible for 3.2 per cent of all spam sent, which puts them in 9th place on the list. Second place went to Brazil, with 11.1 per cent, followed by Turkey, 5.2, and India, 5.0. One would think that the US was more susceptible to botnets which are controlled from other countries.  This would mean that the Russians

might have all their spam being delivered by US botnets and the criminals could still be based in that country. The US has always been seen as a soft target for botnets because it has a huge user base with is less informed about computers than the rest of the world.
