Closed due to unbearable cash flow situation

As our sources told us on Tuesday, developer GRIN is now officially confirming that they are closing the doors due to what the founders of the company are describing as, “an unbearable cash flow situation.”

The rumors about the future of GRIN had been circulating for some time when the last three GRIN-developed titles were not very well received by the media and sales were less than stellar. Bo and Ulf Andersson, the founders of GRIN, said that they are thankful for the relationships that they have had with publishers and partners who did pay the company what they were promised.

The last three titles that GRIN released included Bionic Commando remake, Terminator Salvation, and Wanted: Weapons of Fate. None of these titles has translated into large sales numbers for GRIN. Rumors of cutbacks had been hinted at for some time, and while some will suggest that the root of the closure is the current economic climate, it might have more to do with releasing a string of poorly received titles.

Our sources tell us that the company filed for bankruptcy today and the company’s corporate headquarters in Stockholm has been closed, with employees told not to come into work. It is unknown what unfinished IP GRIN might have in the hopper, but rumors of an unfinished masterpiece continue.

Sources are confirming that GRIN lead developer Peter Bjorklund has already formed a new studio with a number of members from the GRIN development team that is to be called Outbreak Studios. From what we hear, this studio will be focused on the development of downloadable titles for the Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, iPhone, Games for Windows Live, and PSPGo platforms. It is unknown at this time what the Studio has in development or who they might be partnering with.
