Previews suggest a hit

While
we’re preparing to pick through at least a dozen of upcoming reviews of the Zune HD, we’ve learned a couple of valuable and other potentially upsetting nuggets of info.

The previews suggest that this little bugger will give Apple a good run for its money, as it seems to be tougher and arguably prettier than its competitors. The HD TV interface apparently works like a charm, and despite not being as quick as a real PC, it’s quick enough and you sure can’t beat the portability.

Furthermore, Microsoft announced that it’s planning Twitter and Facebook apps sometime later this year and the company announced the first 3D games to hit Zune HD to be: Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition, Vans Sk8: Pool Service, and Audiosurf Tilt. Nvidia’s Tegra brought OpenGL ES 2.0 support, which stands as a testament that many games will follow, and Microsoft seems to agree announcing games downloadable via Zune Marketplace (WiFi) or Zune PC Software.

Unfortunately, Microsoft announced that the Zune HD won’t be available outside of US for now, but rest assured that it won’t take as long as the previous versions. Not that they should have bothered shipping the previous versions, but still.

You can view many pictures and a hands on video here, and check out the Zune HDTV interface here where this little charmer does quite well standing in as a media center.
