The dark side
Apple has announced that ex-Intel counsel D. Bruce Sewell will become
Apple's new general counsel. Sewell left Intel in the reorganization
announced Monday, after spending the past 14 years at the company.
You might think that losing €1.06 billion in an EU antitrust fine is
not something you'd want to have on your CV, but Sewell already has a
history with Apple. In the late eighties he represented Apple in
litigation with Microsoft over some Macintosh UI copyright issues.
However, the fact that Apple had borrowed the UI from Xerox a few years back didn't help
Apple's case much, as Microsoft was just stealing from thieves.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs praised Sewell's extensive experience in
litigation, securities and intellectual property, adding he expects the
transition to be seamless.
Sewell will replace Daniel Cooperman who is expected to retire from Apple at the end of the month.
