$22.5 million investment to grow the company

Casual gaming developer Pop Cap games has secured its first-ever round of funding. The investment in the company, which is said to be $22.5 million, was led by Meritech Capital Partners, but Larry Bowman and John McCaw are also said to be additional investors. The funding is said to represent only a minority stake in the company.

Pop Cap claims that they have been profitable since inception, and the company currently has about 240 employees worldwide and has been in the business of building casual games for a variety of platforms for almost 10 years.

The investment is said to be used to grow the company; and while no one seems to want to talk about it, it has been confirmed that at least some of the money might be used to acquire additional studios or assets to add to the company’s portfolio. At least some of the money will be used to expand Pop Cap’s reach into social media and expansion into new regions.
