FTC moving towards a formal complaint
Just months after the European Commission slapped it with a
record €1.06 billion fine, Intel is finding itself in hot water on the
other side of the Atlantic.
According to Reuters, the majority of FTC commissioners are supporting
efforts to file a formal complaint against the chipmaker. FCC launched
an inquiry in June 2008, but the specifics of the antitrust inquiry or
possible charges are still unknown.
Intel is confident that it's in the clear. “Our business practices are
lawful and … (work) to the benefit of consumers. We certainly have been
working closely with the FTC as they conduct
their investigation. We would hope that the speculation is incorrect ,”
said Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy.
