Sequel and franchise status now confirmed

Take Two Interactive has announced that the Gearbox-developed title, Borderlands, has surpassed the two million in sales mark across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms on which it was released. This news was a bright spot for Take-Two, who opted to delay and move some of its high-profile releases till next year.

What might be more interesting is the fact that Take-Two confirmed that a sequel for Borderlands was in the works, as well as additional downloadable content for the current version of the game. In addition, the company is now referring to Borderlands as a franchise; and has gone as far as to say that they have secured the long-term publishing rights to Borderlands.

While the company has not yet said when a sequel to the first Borderlands can be expected, it is thought that it will likely be 2011 before the sequel will arrive. Our sources tell us that development and planning have already started, but it is far too early to predict when the sequel might be released.
