Vertex 2 Limited Edition

OCZ is apparently working on another Vertex 2 SSD, the one that will dubbed as the Vertex 2 LE (Limited Edition). According to the listing over at Alternate.de and our info from e-tail/retail machinery, the new Vertex 2 should be available pretty soon, and will be available in 200 and 100GB versions, which is quite similar to the Vertex 2 Pro configurations.

As noted, the new Vertex 2 LE sounds pretty similar to the SandForce-based Vertex 2 Pro that was previewed over at Anandtech a while back, especially when you take a look at the capacity configurations. Our sources didn't manage to confirm that this one is going to be based on Sandforce as well, as it appears to be branded as OCZ and the controller is unknown.

We even managed to get some info about the performance of the OCZ Vertex 2 LE and you can expect it to be somewhere around 270MB/s and 250MB/s for maximum read and write, while sustained write should be around 235MB/s. Of course, take these with a grain of salt as these might end up to be rated performance and we will surely wait for some reviews to show up before giving our final judgment.

Alternate.de has sort of jumped the gun with the 200GB version of the Vertex 2 LE which is listed at €879, so we expect the 100GB to be priced at around €400. The Vertex 2 Pro on the other hand, should come later. In any case, it looks like the Force will be strong with OCZ in these next few months.
