According to Digitimes, Acer is mulling the acquisition of Fujitsu's
notebook business in a hope to propel itself ahead of Hewlett Packard
in global notebook shipments.
Acer shipped around 31 million notebooks in 2009, whereas HP managed 37
million units. Acer's shipments grew by 32 percent in 2009, but in
order to overtake HP in 2010 shipments would have to jump by more than
45 percent.
Fujitsu's notebook business is not doing all that well and the end of
its partnership with Siemens doesn't seem to have helped the situation.
Fujitsu shipped around three million notebooks in 2009.
