Sony will be spending a large part of their effort at E3 focusing on their 3D support for the PlayStation 3. As you might recall, Sony pushed out an update in April that added 3D support to the PlayStation 3; but you still have to have a television that offers 3D support. As everyone knows, Sony does sell such a model.

While Sony might be talking about 3D support at E3, the truth of the matter is that the first wave of 3D titles will arrive on June 10th in Japan as an update that you can get for existing titles to enable 3D support. According to sources, Wipeout HD, Superdust HD and Pain will have updates that can enable 3D support.

The 3D enabler update for Wipeout HD and Superdust HD will be free, while Pain will require the user to spend $3.20 to purchase the update in order to enable 3D support for that title.

In addition to Wipeout HD, Superdust HD, and Pain, Sony has previously confirmed that Motorstorm: Pacific Rift would also get an update for 3D support in June; but at least for the moment, this title isn’t on the June 10th release agenda.

In addition, Little Big Planet, Gran Turismo 5 and Killzone 2 are all slated to get 3D support, as well, with Sony expected to provide more info about these titles at E3. Reports confirm that Sony recently was demoing both Gran Turismo 5 and Killzone 2 with 3D support in a Tokyo café.

Expect Sony to announce their release plans for 3D support for North America and Europe during E3; and look for the company to use this as their big push during E3 while they try to slip in the new pay tier information for the PlayStation Network. Sources confirm to us that Sony will announce creation of a new pay tier for the PlayStation Network during E3.
