Maker of very expensive printer ink, HP has seen its
notebook sales plummet faster than a free falling team of elephants who have
forgotten to pack their parachutes.
According to
Digitimes HP's notebook shipments in May 2010 reached only 2.6-2.7
million units, lower the company's original expectation of 3.2-3.4 million
units. This is all due to disappointing sales in Europe, where
the economy has had a slap on its nose and China due to complaints about faulty
gear.
The outfit will not be crying into its beer for long. It
shipped over nine million notebooks in the first quarter and the company's
combined shipments in April (2.8-3 million units) and May were only 5.4-5.7
million units. However the outfit will need to ship at least 3.3 million in
June to stay flat on quarter.
More optimistic beancounters think that all this is
delayed demand and HP's shipments will grow like topsy in the third
quarter. HP's shipments in May are also expected to affect the
performance of its manufacturing partners Quanta , Inventec and Compal,
the
market watchers added.
