It is a sign of the Times New Roman
The Roman Catholic church appears to be having a few
problems with the documents it is shoving on its website.
The Italian press has focused on one document that has
appeared on the Vatican web site which was penned by the infallible Pope Pius
XII. Pope Pius didn't have a word processor so that when his
best seller encyclical Sacra Viginitas, was shoved on the web it appears to
have been retyped.
On the Vatican web site the document goes on about “right
from Apostolic Times New Roman this virtue has been thriving and flourishing in
the garden of the Church.” Later Pope Pius bangs on about “ Several Times New Roman
in the course of his comparison between marriage and virginity the Apostle
reveals his mind…” Our personal favourite is “All holy men and women have
most carefully guarded the movements of their senses and their passions, and at
Times New Roman have very harshly crushed them…”
For some reason the word-processor replaced each occurrence of the word "times" with the name of the popular typeface: "Times
New Roman." We know that the Roman Catholic church claims to be the
font of all wisdom, but “Times New Roman are a-changing” and infallibility does
not extend to data entry. Clearly the typeface, which is one of the older ones in
the world, should be replaced by something more modern.
