Computex 08: Even smaller models to come

Foxconn isn't a company that you think of when you're thinking projectors, but judging by what we saw at their booth, it looks like they might just become a force to recon with in the entry level and ultra portable projector market.

The PD-S2900 features a 0.45in DLP chip with a resolution of 858x600 pixels, although it can only muster 55 Lumens, and a more expensive 90 Lumens version is in the works. This tiny projector measures 102x92x36mm (DxWxH) and it weighs in at a mere 381g, excluding cables.

The only downside we could see was that it uses a proprietary connector which attaches to a dongle for composite video and power inputs. Still, at a retail price which should be less than US$500 this could become a very useful business tool for smaller meetings.

But for those that find this to be too cumbersome to carry, Foxconn is already working on next year's model, which goes under the name of PD-W1001 and will have a 0.3in DLP chip and a native resolution of 854x480 pixels.

Its downfall is that it can only produce 25 Lumens, thanks to its LED light, but this might be forgiven when you realize it's about the size of half a packet of fags cigarettes or 55x46x26mm (DxWxH) and weighs in at a mere 65g.
