We reported earlier on a study done by Queensland University of
Technology in Brisbane, Australia which reported that ultrafine
particles emitted by laser printers in home and office printers can be
hazardous to human health.
The Queensland study measured laser
printer emissions and Hewlett-Packard’s printers ranked first as the
highest particle emitting laser printers.
Hewlett-Packard did not deny
that its printers emit some fine particulate matter, but has issued a
statement that there is no reason to believe that these emissions pose
a significant health risk under occupational safety guidelines.
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California agrees,
and issued a statement that more research into the connection between
laser printers and health risks is needed.
