Eurocom has announced a pair of notebooks based on Intel's Calpella platform and ATI or Nvidia discrete graphics
The 15.6-inch W860CU Cougar and 17.3-inch W870CU Cheetah will be
offered in a wide variety of configurations and you'll also have a
number of upgrade options. Shipping with 1.60 GHz Core i7-720QM, 1.73
GHz Core i7-820QM and even the oven hot 2.0 GHz Core i7-920XM Extreme
CPUs, power should not be an issue. Eurocom promises fast DDR3 1600
memory, but we're not sure how much of it.
On the graphics side, you'll be able to choose from a number of
options, including Geforce GTX 260M, GTX 280M or ATi Mobility Radeon HD
4870XT with 1GB of GDDR3 for high-performance PC gaming, and NVIDIA
Quadro FX 3700M with 1GB GDDR3 for those looking for high-performance
workstation performance. Obviously, Eurocom will include next
generation Gefroces and Radeons as they become available.
The Cougar measures 374mm x 263mm x 42mm and weights under 3.3kg, while
the Cheetah is 412x279x39-48mm and weights 4kg. There's not info on
pricing yet, but we don't think anyone is expecting them to end up
cheap. As impressive as they are on the inside, we can't say we're thrilled about the looks.
