The neighbors described him as a quiet loner...

Gigabyte is
one of the first AIBs to roll out a passive HD4850 card. Branded Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 Passive (GV-R485MC-1GI), the silent card is reference clocked and it comes with 1024MB of GDDR3 memory.

The list price is €158 and this sounds like a fair deal. There are very few 1024MB HD4850 cards on the market to begin with, and even with active cooling they sell for €155 or more. So, if you're not into overclocking, Gigabyte's passive card might be a great choice.

Having a passive HD4850 is no big deal in itself, but marketing people will probably have a field day selling it as the fastest passive card on the market. You can check out the listing here, according to the retailers, the card should be available within 10 days.
