Gitex 2008: Was not fast enough

Either ATI
wanted to deceive Nvidia or it simply decided to change the specification of the card that they used to call RV770LE.

The card was supposed to have a 192-bit memory interface but the one that will be launched as Radeon HD 4830 later this week will have 256-bit interface. The number of shaders has been upped from the planned 480 to 640, while the core clock should remain at planned 575MHz.

The key point is that ATI wants to beat Nvidia in every single market segment, and at the same time Nvidia probably plans some price cuts at the same time. ATI likes the position it is currently in, and it wants to ride the wave as much as it can, as sales are up to roof and the demand is still there.

We are not sure about HD 4830 pricing, but with HD 4850 at 130 euro or less, the 4830 will have to be close to €100, which might offer great value for money.
