Gitex 2008: So says Darren Grasby

The director of EMEA graphics, the chap who used to run Connect 3D and now runs an important graphics part of AMD, has confirmed that the customers and retailers are massively buying more ATI graphics than anytime before.

We have reported before that U.K., Germany and some other market segment were defecting toward ATI and that sales are doing much better than anytime before. AMD had huge success with cards such as HD 4870 and 4850 among the newly introduced HD 4650 and 4450 series, and the market responded positively to the whole RV7x0 generation. There will be some new cards that the company plans to introduce shortly, but the chap didn't want to comment on HD 4830, the card that is scheduled to launch this week.

The general feeling is that AMD CPU guys have changed their opinion toward the huge $5.6 billion ATI acquisition deal, and they can see the clear benefits of great selling graphics and chipsets. If only the CPU was doing that well, but there are some new 45nm CPU parts in the pipeline that might change the feeling toward AMD's CPUs.
