Not a reference design

It's been a long wait, but the first Radeon HD 4850 X2 has finally turned up and it looks like Sapphire will be the first of AMD's partners to launch a dual GPU graphics card based on the Radeon HD 4850. The card doesn't look anything like the Radeon HD 4870 X2 cards we've seen to date.

It's, of course, a dual-slot card and it has two separate, large coolers for each of the GPUs, as well as heat spreaders for the memory and a heatsink for the PCIe bridge chip, which is mounted at the bottom of the card between the two GPUs. There's also a large heatsink at the rear of the card that cools the PWM circuitry.

According to Pchacc.cn who posted the pictures, the card should feature 2GB of GDDR3 memory. The card also appears to have four DVI ports and a TV-out connector. You'll need one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCIe power connector for this monster card, and it looks like it has either a dual three-phase or a six-phase power regulation setup.

You can find the pictures here, although you have to open them in a new window to see the full pictures due to some odd formatting in the forums.
