A bit too pricey

Although we've written about this card at a couple of occasions already, the official word has now come from Sapphire and the card is set to hit retail shortly. There are a couple of interesting details in the press release which hasn't made their way into the leaks earlier on.

First of all the card will use a PCIe 2.0 bridge chip and secondly, each of the DVI ports are dual link, which means that this would be an interesting card for a high resolution quad display setup. However, we doubt that anyone would really consider this card for that kind of usage.

No clock speeds were mentioned which is unusual for Sapphire, but with early benchmarks already available on the internet and according to the early tests the GPU is clocked at 625MHz with the 2GB (1GB per GPU) of DDR3 memory clocked at 1GHz.

The official pricing is US$419 or €333/£270 +VAT which isn't far off the prices we spotted last week. It seems a little steep compared to what you can get a Radeon HD 4870 X2, and we're not sure how many of these cards Sapphire will sell at this price point.
