Rome defies gravity

The Italian market really reminds me of the Bosnian computer market, where everyone likes cheap stuff, branded if possible, and most of the products are outdated. When it comes to cars and clothes, Italians are not lacking style, but their choice of graphics cards is an utter disaster.

We told you that all over Europe there is much more search and purchase demand for ATI, especially Radeon HD 4870 and 4850 and some cheaper cards, including the 4650, 4550 and 4350, but this is definitely not the case in Italy.

The most asked for and searched for card in Italy, according to nexths.it popular etailer is a €47 priced XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512Mb Gddr2 128bit Dvi HDTv HDCP PCie. The runner up is €145 priced ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 320Mb Gddr3 320bit 2*Dvi HDCP PCie followed by €32.5 priced ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS TurboCache*256/512MB Gddr2 Dvi HDTv LP PCie, Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT 512Mb Gddr2 128bit Dvi HDTv HDCP PCie priced at 49.90, XFX NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 512Mb Gddr2 128bit PCie priced at €65.

ATI's only representative in the list is the Sapphire's HD 3870 512Mb Gddr3 2*Dvi AvivoHD Pcie retail, which came in sixth. Nvidia is again at the last place with €32 priced XFX NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS TurboCache*256/512Mb Gddr2 Dvi HDTv PCie.

So, it's not only that Italians obviously adore Nvidia, and they buy the lowest end, all the cards on the top seven list are last year's news and at least one year old. When it comes to ultra low-end Nvidia we didn’t see a single 9400 or 9500, and when it comes to ATI we haven’t seen any HD 4000 cards.

It seems that the VGA market in Italy is not the same since Since Lorenzo Martone (ex. Sapphire and ATI) moved from the graphics market to video games industry.
