Asus has officially unveiled its two Republic of Gamers graphics cards that will be a part of Asus' recently introduced Matrix series. This time Asus has decided to go for the popular RV770 GPU, ATI's HD 4800 series.

Both cards are using Asus' own design, featuring black PCB, and custom made cooling solution which Asus brands as Hybrid Cooler. The Matrix series brings more control to users as they can adjust GPU and memory Voltages and monitor GPU, memory, Power IC and ambient temperatures as well as the GPU, memory and board power consumption.

The EAH4850 MATRIX/HDTI/512M features a single fan Hybrid Cooler cooling system and works at 625MHz for the core and 1,986MHz for memory. It is quite strange that Asus decided to keep this card at its reference clocks despite the bulky looking dual-slot cooler. On the other hand, the EAH4870 MATRIX/HDTI/512MD5 comes with a slight factory overclock and works at 770MHz for the core and 3,680MHz for memory. This card has a dual-slot Hybrid Cooler, but we did expect to see some higher clock speeds.

Unfortunately, release dates and pricing for both cards are unknown, but we manage to find the HD 4850 Matrix listed at Geizhals.at, with the lowest price at €196.95.
