Entry level

We learned that Nvidia has a card codenamed GT218, and this very well might be the first 40nm card to launch in the next two months. The card should end up with a sub 22W TDP and it is meant for the entry-level market, where it should replace Geforce 9500GS and GT cards.

The chip comes in a 23mm package, it is developed in 40nm, and this is the chip that is mainly targeted for OEMs who desperately want a new Geforce for their autumn PC line-up.

Someone at Nvidia explained that GT1xx renames of Geforce 9000 series were intended for OEMs who couldn't wait for the new chip but they still wanted to present the new Nvidia offerings for their new PCs.

The GT218 is certainly the new chip and we expect it shortly, in very early Q2 2009, of course if all goes well.
