The battle begins April 6th

VR-Zone has just received information that Nvidia is prepping a Geforce GTX 275 card to go head-on with the upcoming 55nm Radeon HD 4890 that we discussed yesterday. According to the details, Nvidia has briefed its partners only just recently and details of the counterattack strategy are pretty vague at the moment.

However, Nvidia seems confident that this card will have a competitive pricing and performance advantage over the HD 4890. Keep in mind that this card is labeled as a “275” which implies that performance can be expected between the range of a 216-shader GTX 260 and a GTX 280.

It’s also interesting to note that in the span of about 8 months, Nvidia has released over five discreet GPU models that perform within 10-15% of each other, ranging in price from $200-$650. The company is aiming for a $229 to $279 price range for its GTX 275, which directly competes with the HD 4890 at a similar price point.

Nevertheless, Nvidia’s Geforce GTX 275 and AMD’s Radeon HD 4890 are both expected to launch on April 6th, and we will be looking forward to the battle for the performance segment that awaits both sides.
