Different fan, reference clocks

MSI is working on a new HD 5770, and although it looks like an HD 5770 with an HD 5750 fan slapped on, after closer inspection it looks like much more. On the other hand, the card is left at its reference clocks.

The card ends up working at reference 850MHz for the GPU and 4800 for 1GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 128-bit memory interface. It still has a dual slot design with two DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.

It looks like MSI basically decided to stick an HD 5750 fan on the HD 5770. As you can see on a comparable picture here, the only thing that is the same on these two cards is the shroud, but the rest looks like a whole lot different.

The new R5770-PM2D1G or to make it simple, the new HD 5770 uses MSI's seaweed shape blade fan design and it even has a different heatsink under the shroud. According to our info, the new fan should provide higher airflow but keep the noise down.

The only drawback that we can see is the fact that it keeps the air inside the case while the reference cooled card uses the backplate exhaust to get rid of the hot air. On the other hand the half-height exhaust was never that good, and we still need to see how good the new MSI fan really is.

The card should appear in retail pretty soon, and we guess that the price should end up around €130.
