Computex 08: To its TV-tuners

KWorld might
not be the most well-known TV-tuner manufacturer, but the company had a solid line-up of new products on display during Computex. What really stood out were several TV-tuner cards which featured component video input, something we haven’t seen from other manufacturers so far.

The great thing about this is that you can actually capture analog HD quality video from sources like a video camera or even something like a games console. Most of the cards also featured coaxial S/PDIF in, although we’d like to have seen optical S/PDIF, as well.

For Europe KWorld has the PE360D, pictured below, which despite what it says on the box supports DVB-T and analog standards. It’s a PCIe card and on top of component video input, it also supports composite and S-video as well as stereo audio via RCA jacks. The PE360D also supports H.264 and should work with HD broadcasts in most countries using DVB-T.

For the U.S., KWorld is offering the PE3652AQ which supports ATSC HD instead of DVB-T and it supports up to 1080i transmissions, but otherwise features the same input options. In DVB-T regions KWorld also has the EC100D, which is an Express card solution which also supports component video capture, but it lacks the S/PDIF input of the previous two cards.
