Alienware MX18X has two in SLI

Nvidia waited for Computex and E3, two shows that happen at the about same time this year, to launch its flagship mobile GPU, the Geforce 680M.

This is Nvidia’s most powerful notebook GPU and it has quite an impressive spec. The GPU clock is 720MHz, it has 1344 Cuda cores and it can a texture fill rate of 30.4 billion a second. It comes with 1800MHz GDDDR5 memory clock and it has 2 GB of it. Let’s also mention that it features a 256-bit memory bus, the fastest that Nvidia uses in notebook computers.

The Geforce GTX 680M supports OpenGL 4.1, DirecX 11, PCIe 3.0, 3D vision, Optimus, Cuda PhysX, FXAA and TXAA. Alienware is committed to use a single GPU in M17X machine or dual GTX 680M in M18X. It should be available before the end of June.

MSI should also come along with its GT70 notebook, packing a single Geforce GTX 680M, and Clevo and its partners including Origin, Maingear and Ava Direct will also roll out systems based on this powerful GPU.

It is quite clear that you won’t see any Ultrabooks with this GPU inside, but when it comes to high performance gaming on a notebook, this will be the one to look for.
