Super GPU for home builders

Just when you thought that AMD was having a bit of a snooze until Zen appeared to save its bacon, it has announced that the A10-7890K processor chip, has shattered some records for integrated graphics.

The chip sits at the top of all AMD A-series PC processors and is now shipping for $165 which means you can build a gaming desktop that can handle 3D and HD for less than $500, at least according to AMD.The chip boasts a clock speed of 4.1 GHz base and 4.3 GHz boost. The chip is featuring the Radeon R7 graphics core based off the Sea Islands GCN architecture that has 512 streaming cores and a clock speed of 900 MHz. The chip will feature 4 MB of L2 cache, 95W TDP and DDR3 memory support of up to 2133 MHz.

The chip is based on Godavari  and can manage 1.02 teraflops which is a bit faster than the A10-7870K. The A10-7890K has four CPU cores and eight Radeon R7 GPU cores and since it is unlocked users can overclock the CPU.

AMD offers top-line FX chips without integrated GPUs for gamers, who then pair the CPUs with discrete graphics cards in desktops. With the GPU integrated into the A10-7890K, users won’t have to buy a separate graphics card..

AMD has packaged the chip with a Wraith Cooler, a heat-sink. PC builders usually need to purchase a heat-sink like this separately from the chip. It also lights up which should appeal to those who build systems with clear panels to show off the internal gubbins. .
