FT-LCD panel makers see slight growth

Still not as good as last year

Taiwan-based TFT-LCD panel makers are seeing slight stirrings in their industry, according to a report from Digitimes Research.

Digitimes Research beancounters think that AU Optronics, Innolux, Chunghwa Picture Tubes and HannStar Display will together ship 52.647 million large-size (above 9-inch) panels in the second quarter of 2016.

This figure is 6.5 per cent on the last quarter but 9.1 per cent on last year.  Taiwan makes up 32.9 per cent  of global total of flat panels manufactured.

Of the large-size panels, 31.5 per cent end up in tellies, 34.9 per cent  in notebooks, 21.7 per cent  in monitors, 9.1 per cent in tablets and 2.8 per cent is something else Digitimes Research said.

AUO will ship 6.588 million TV panels, 9.855 million notebook-use units, 6.382 million monitor-use units and 1.970 million tablet-use units and Innolux's shipments will be 9.983 million units, 8.537 million units, 4.942 million units and 1.070 million units, respectively. CPT .5 will ship 1.5 million and HannStar Display will ship 250,000 tablet panels .
